Best Concentrate Dab Pens

Cannabis has been used either medicinally or recreationally since 500 BC. Yet, even today, we're discovering new ways to partake. Like many things in our society, we can thank one thing for the newest addition to the list—technology.

The first vape pen was actually invented way back in 1927 by Joseph Robinson for medical use, but it didn’t catch on. Herbert Gilbert tried again in 1963 with the “smokeless non-tobacco cigarette,” but nobody would market his invention.

It wasn’t until 1996 when Markus Storz began developing theVolcano vaporizer that the start of the cannabis concentrate vape market was born. That market has come a long way since the first bulky table-top vaporizer hit the scene.

Now it is flush with pocket-ready concrete pens, so much so that finding the right option can be challenging—and that’s what we’re here to help with. Today, we’ll take a look at eight of the best concentrate pens on the market in 2020.

Kandypens Vape

Kandypens takes the top dab pensspot thanks to its fantastic build. Some feature medical-grade electro-plated stainless steel with a quartz bowl over a stove-top heating element in the atomizer. The result is both durable and highly effective.

Other models also carry a 900 mAh battery also has an impressive full-day charge and LED indicator lights to alert you when it’s time to top up. LED lights also indicate the vape voltage, with five total settings allowing complete control.

Other perks include mouthpiece cooling technology, an automatic shutoff feature, and a lifetime warranty.

    Linx Ember Vaporizer

The Linx Ember is created with medical grade stainless steel. This lightweight device takes an innovative approach to the classic dab-vape pen design with a glass mouthpiece and wickless ceramic-plate atomizer.

With it's Top Flow air design, there are no spills and you've got the perfect pen for a bit of honey on the go.

      Utillian 5

Billed as an ideal pen for users of all skill levels, the Utillian 5 shines in its simplicity. Its one-button design still grants you five voltage settings, and a rugged stainless-steel shell prevents accidental damage.

Its atomizers black ceramic rods also wick up wax, preventing it from slipping to the bottom of the cup to potentially go to waste, an issue many newcomers to the vape concentrate world have. It even has a high capacity 1500mAh battery, giving you more time between charges.

        Linx Blaze

Another top dab pen option from Linx, the Blaze is available with either a quartz or ceramic atomizer. Like the Hypnos Zero, it has a glass mouthpiece, but the atomizer is redesigned for better airflow and is bigger and deeper. It can fit twice the wax.

As a result, many experienced dabbers consider the Blaze an upgraded version of the Zero. However, it also comes with a higher price tag. For us, that knocked it back a bit in the rankings, but if you enjoy bigger clouds, the Blaze might be for you if it comes down between the Zero and the Blaze.

          Linx Ares

Unlike the Zero and Blaze that function almost like a gen one and gen two design, the Ares is something entirely new with the same quality we've come to expect from Linx. It looks more like a stainless-steel ballpoint pen than a vape—that’s because there’s no chamber.

Instead, it functions more like a dipper vaporizer with an innovative honey straw design and a ceramic heating rod. The sleek design makes it lightweight—just 2.5 ounces—and easy to carry around in your pocket.

            Yocan Regen

While it's one of the more inexpensive concentrate pens on our list, the Yocan Regen still packs a punch. It is the next generation of the Magneto, another popular option among wax lovers.

It comes with two quartz coils and features a simple two-piece design with three voltage settings. This vape pen is a heavy hitter best for those who value big clouds.

              Focus V Tourist

Due to its unique assortment of parts and functions, the Focus V Tourist is not recommended for on-the-go use. It’s a two-in-one vape pen that can handle both concentrates and herb, making it an excellent choice if you dabble in both.

Switching between modes is easy, as is temperature control and overall operation. Hands down, the Focus V Tourist is the best choice if you want versatility and usability—but aren't horribly concerned with portability.

                Yocan Evolve Plus XL

This pen isn’t going to give you all the bells and whistles of its higher-priced counterparts, but you will get cloud envy from friends and a sweet taste. It's considered one of Yocan’s heaviest hitters with a dual quartz coil atomizer and a 1200mah battery.

Like the Yocan Regen, the Evolve comes with a nifty place to safely store your concentrate and features a durable, discreet design.

                  What is a Concentrate Pen?

Also called a wax or dab pen, a concentrate pen is a type of vaporizer. Most consist of three parts: a battery, atomizer (heating chamber), and mouthpiece—in the order. The three are connected in a threaded pen-like package.

The biggest difference between a standard vape pen and a concentrate pen is the operating temperature. A typical vape pen usually provides temperatures between 315 to 385 degrees Fahrenheit, while a wax pen puts out 350 to 400 degrees. As you can see, there is some overlap, but dab pens also have a different atomizer style.

How Does a Concentrate Pen Work?

Another difference between a regular vape pen and a concentrate pen is ease-of-use—concentrate pens can take some time to get the hang of. Here's a quick run-down of how to use one:

                  • Remove the mouthpiece to expose the coils or heating disc in the atomizer.
                  • Use your dab tool to collect your desired amount of wax.
                  • Place the wax in the heating chamber.
                  • Replace the mouthpiece and turn the vape on by hitting the power button five times.
                  • Hold down the fire button and inhale.

While we recommend you also read the instructions on your specific concentrate pen, the process above is generally the gist of it. If you are looking for a glass pipe that isn't too big, check out some discreet smoking pipes.

                  Why Choose a Concentrate Pen?

Vaping is far from the only way to consume cannabis concentrates, so why go with a vape pen?

                  • Small and easy to conceal in your pants or jacket pocket
                  • Easier to use than most dab rigs
                  • Discreet and low odor
                  • Provide intense flavor
